Which titles?
I have an idea for what every story (except, maybe, Tales of the Flame) could do if I were to pursue it further. It's a natural part of the writing process, I think, a recognition that nothing ever really ends. Yes, people die, or move on, or do different things, but, on the whole, existence continues.
I think it's natural to assume that my characters "go on living" in a lot of ways beyond the story. However, that being said, there are three sequels that I would love to write.
I think it's natural to assume that my characters "go on living" in a lot of ways beyond the story. However, that being said, there are three sequels that I would love to write.
- Sequel to Writ in Blood
This one is a bit of a no-brainer, since I've written the first book, then broke it in two. Still, I would want to not just rewrite the second half (thereby making the sequel), but also write a third book in the world of magical Poets.
Part of this comes from an experience I had one night whilst praying with my family. I was saying the prayer, when a character with an angry disposition, ragged hair, large body, and a militant poetry in him kicked down a door in my mind. That is, I suddenly imagined a door, it was suddenly being kicked down, and this guy was saying, "I'm next." I stopped praying for a long moment, because the experience was so startling I forgot what I was doing. Anyway, I finished up the prayer and have been wondering about that guy ever since. I know he's part Zach de la Rocha, from Rage Against the Machine, and I know some of why he's doing what he's doing, but more than that I don't really know. I would love to find out.
- Sequel to Chelsea Washington
I really like Chelsea. I feel like there are a lot of interesting things that could happen to her, especially given how much time she spent in Pandra. That Young Adult books are usually conceived as trilogies (at least) and potentially series is also part of it. There's one character in the book that I'd love to bring back from the mire of edits, so that's another reason. Lastly, I really enjoyed stretching myself by writing a different gender, religion, and race than myself; I'd like to keep growing. - Sequel to The Terra Campaign
With a title like that, you'd expect it to, well, be a campaign. That is, lots of stories involving it. The problem is, Impetus is my first novel. I loved it, but there is a lot of work to get it up on its feet. Still, I wrote, perhaps, a third of a sequel for it already, so there's a lot of fun stuff that would be enjoyable to revisit. Of all the sequels that bubble around in my brain, this is the one that I think would be the most satisfying (considering some of the twists I have planned), but least likely to happen.
Status
Nope. Nothing is likely to happen with sequels for any of these stories anytime soon.
